A special court in Wau, Western Bhar al-Ghazal State, has sentenced 27 men convicted of rape, murder and night robbery to between three months and two years in jail.

They were among 54 suspects arrested in the town in July and accused of raping girls before their parents, killing people and robbery with violence.

Half of them were later released after investigations.

The deputy Mayor of Wau town, Santino Manut, says those found guilty of rape and murders have been jailed for two years while convicts of night robbery will have to spend at least three months in prison.
