Wau: Army returns to barracks

Author : | Published: Thursday, July 7, 2016

The SPLA soldiers who are in Wau residential areas have been directed to relocate to their defensive positions outside the town, the mayor has told Eye Radio.

Mayor Akol Akol Ajiek, who spoke to Eye Radio after a hint from the state governor, says the soldiers have moved seven kilometers out of the town.

The Mayor says the soldiers shot in the air this morning in an attempt to scare off any armed criminals.

“The mayor of Wau municipal council actually told me that what happened has nothing to do with fighting again in Wau, the situation is okay,” Eye Radio’s Deng Dimo reported from Wau town.

However, the incident instilled fear in the residents in the morning.

“People were in panic. Many got confused by the shooting,” Dimo added.

However, the SPLA spokesperson, Brigadier Lul Ruai Koang, says he is yet to contact military officers in the state on the redeployment.
