A selected cattle anti-theft force will be formed in Warrap state and will have immunity from prosecution, if they kill anyone during a cattle raid, according to an official.

Members of the SPLA forces will make up the new anti-theft force which will be formed to deal with rising insecurity in the Border States, the Deputy Governor of Warrap state, Akech Tong Aleu has said.

“We are going to have a mobile force which is called anti-cattle theft. That force is going to be organized by all the three states and then will be stationed in a certain area that can track down all the cattle raiders.”

Mister Akech also said the order, which will come into force after Independence Day, is one of the recommendations agreed upon at their last month security meeting, in Lakes State.

“All members of the force with orders from the government will be immune from prosecution when carrying out missions given by the authorities.”

The three states of Unity, Warrap and Lakes have held a series of peace and reconciliation conferences and reached peaceful coexistence deals, including return of stolen animals and reparation made to relatives of deceased.

However, none of the resolutions has worked so far.
