South Sudanese General Students’ Union and UNESCO have launched a writing competition for youth.

This competition aims at encouraging young people and students to write articles and short stories about peace in their communities.

The information secretary of the union, Deng Hammad, says the best articles will be given prize money.

“The competition is about article writing and short stories. The people we are targeting are South Sudanese students who are studying media in the universities, colleges and institutions,” said Mr Hammad.

“Also people who are writing articles in daily newspapers but they are lacking support – do not have anybody that can support them or take care about what they are doing in daily newspapers or even in the social networking sites like Facebook and etc.”

Mr. Hammad said they will pay a total of 1000 dollars for the three top stories.

The last date for submission is February 16.
