Traders in Western Bahr el-Ghazal demand representation in Wau Municipal Council

Traders in Western Bahr el-Ghazal are demanding representation in Wau Municipal Council so that their challenges are addressed. The Chairperson of the State Chamber of Commerce, Wol Charles, told Eye Radio that they are demanding a seat in the council in order to defend the interest of the traders and consumers.

However, the Mayor of Wau Municipality, Michael Gebatin Okello told Eye Radio that the Chamber of Commerce is already represented by three members who are part of the traders’ bloc. Mister Gebatin added that a member of the council earlier resigned, and the traders demanded that the vacant seat should be given to them. He said the vacant seat belongs to a particular suburb in Wau, and not for the traders’ bloc. The Wau Municipal Council has 35 councilors, representing five blocs.
