Traders whose shops where demolished in Juba Town yesterday say there are no roads leading to the new market allocated to them at Nyakuron suburb.

The old town market was demolished following a directive of Juba mayor Christopher Wani.

The order authorized a demolition team to clear un-demarcated areas as part of a plan to reorganize the city.

Eye Radio spoke to some of them during the demolition and here is what they had to say.

“They’ve given us shops inside the residential area where you cannot sell goods or customer will not come to you. It’s a place to be used for prostitution, it is not a right place for trading,” protested a trader.

They stressed that the new market is inaccessible. Some criticized the timing of the demolition.

“Why this relocation in the season of charismas, that is my question?” asked another angry trader.

“Our government should frankly say that we are not its citizens and they should tell us where to go.”

Officials from the Juba City Council declined to comment.
