Strike affects flights at JIA

Author : | Published: Wednesday, January 6, 2016

Activities at Juba International Airport came to a standstill briefly in the morning after employees downed their tools, demanding allowance arrears.

According to some airport employees who requested anonymity, the workers have not been paid the allowances for months.

But in an interview with Eye Radio this afternoon, Civil Aviation Authority CEO Stephen Warkozi, blamed the situation on generator failure.

“There is no strike. What happened this morning was a matter of power because generator has a little problem,” Mr Warkozi said.

The strike, which officials have downplayed, affected various flight schedules today.

Many travelers were stranded at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

One of such travelers is President Festus Mogae, the chairman of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation, who was expected to attend a JMEC meeting to select ministers of interim government.

The meeting didn’t take place as scheduled.
