State-owned fuel dealer ‘eliminates’ fuel shortage

The National Oil and Gas Corporation of South Sudan, the Nile Petroleum Company, says it will supply the country with enough fuel to solve the shortage.

Some weeks back, the country was seriously hit by the scarcity of fuel.

Traders had said the shortage was due to the increase in the rate of dollar in the black market.

Addressing the media in Juba, the Managing Director of Nile Petroleum Company, Paul Adong said he held a meeting with the petrol station companies to see the challenges they are facing.

“The fuel situation has been stabilized, but we want to do more things to consolidate and keep smooth flow of the fuel into the country so that we don’t fall into the same crisis again,” Mr Adong said.

“One of the key issues that we stressed in this meeting is the flow of information, the flow of information is important because if we don’t know the problems that the fuel stations have, it will be difficult for Nile Pet to plan on the quantity of the fuel that we will import into the country.”

He said Nile Pet will import fuel and sell it to petrol stations around the country using South Sudanese pounds.

“I think that problem has been eliminated because we will take it on ourselves to get the dollars to bring fuel.”
