Sporadic shooting between the army and suspected armed youth has been reported in Yambio town in Western Equatoria state.

The clashes between the SPLA and arrow boys –allied to the SPLA-in Opposition started last night, and continued this morning.

The state Minister of Information says the shootings has been intense.

“From around 8:00 PM yesterday to this moment as am speaking there was shooting,” Daniel Ezbon said.

He spoke to Eye Radio from his hideout at home. He said the streets of the town have been left empty.

No one is outside and as I am speaking to you I am indoors, you cannot see people on the road completely,” Mr. Ezbon said.

Two days ago, the SPLM in Opposition forces accused government troops of attacking their bases in the state.

This fighting comes less than a week after the governor declared an order barring military from entering market and residential areas with fire arms.

It is also less than a month after the SPLA signed an agreement with an armed group in the state to cease hostilities.

The SPLA spokesperson, Col Philip Aguer could not confirm or deny today’s fighting, saying he had no information on the incident.
