SPLA to have a ‘unified’ uniform

Author : | Published: Wednesday, July 19, 2017

The uniform of the army will soon be unified, SPLA Chief of Defense Forces has said.

The national army has more than ten camouflage patterns of the military fatigues, some of which are similar to those of other armed groups.

The military fatigues include tiger stripe camouflage, olive drab, and jungle fatigues.

General James Ajongo says harmonizing the military fatigues will help differentiate the SPLA from criminals and militia groups.

“What I am saying is that, this uniform is being used by criminals,” General Ajongo told the state-run SSBC television Monday.

“This is what brought us into problems with the International community.

“Sometimes they say the SPLA is a militia. Why? It is because if they find us wearing different clothes like this, they will not say that we are an army, because what they refer to as uniform is something similar.”

In Juba, some victims of night robberies have described their attackers as dressed in military or police uniform.
