South Sudan submits instrument of ratification to EAC

Author : | Published: Monday, September 5, 2016

The South Sudan government has submitted instruments of ratification to the East African Community to officially become a full member of the bloc.

The instrument is a document that member countries sign as a requirement when joining the bloc. They explain the rules and regulations and code of conduct of member countries.

President Salva Kiir signed the accession treaty for South Sudan to join the East African Community in April this year.

The Tanzanian President, John Pombe Magufuli, signed on behalf of the bloc.

Since then, South Sudan had not submitted the document to become a full member.

The Instruments of Ratification submitted on Monday have been signed by the Presidential Advisor on Economic Affairs, Aggrey Tisa Sabuni.

Mr. Sabuni is also the one who presented the document to the East African Community at the headquarters in Arusha, on behalf of the South Sudanese government.

The East African Community Secretary General, Ambassador Liberat Mfumukeko received it on behalf of the bloc.
