Any security officer who engages in celebratory gunfire during this festive season will be punished, the Inspector General of Police has said.

Some celebrants often shoot in the air on Christmas and New Year eves in Juba.

Gen Pieng Deng Kuol says the ministry of interior has established a court to try those who will violate this order.

“The court is definitely going to try [them],” Gen Deng told Eye Radio.

He said those who defied the order last year are still under detention, awaiting trial.
