Schools closed down over lack of teachers

Author : | Published: Monday, September 21, 2015

At least three schools in Tijor Payam of Juba County, Central Equatoria, have been closed down due to lack of teachers.

Tijor area, about 45-miles west of the Juba, has six primary schools. Only three of these schools are still operational, with less than ten teachers in total.

Residents of the area are calling on the state government to equip these schools with teachers and school materials.

Lino Lukudu Keriraba, Head Teacher, says his school, which is the biggest in the area, has only three teachers.

“We don’t have teachers; we have only three teachers in Tijor School. Can three teachers teach six classes? He asked.

The six schools are: Tijor Primary School, Gurulotogo Primary School, Liggi Primary School, Buko Primary School, and Yarja Primary School.

Buko and Yarja primary schools have closed down.

“We are urging the Juba County Commissioner and the State Governor to please hurry and do something for these schools.”

Mr. Lino says the school was constructed by a Netherlands charity organization, ZOA International in 2012.

He says most of the teachers who were teaching in schools that have been shut down were volunteers, and they were downsized by the state authorities on demand of qualification.

There are no secondary schools in Tijor Payam.
