Authorities in Lakes State say eight schools have been closed in Chueibet County due to communal violence.

The director for education in the County says the schools were affected by conflict across the boundaries with neighboring counties.

Maluach Yak says youth pass through the schools during cattle raids and revenge attacks.

He told Eye Radio that pupils have been reintegrated into other schools.

Mr Maluach said some of them where already facing challenges such as shortage of water and toilets.

“These schools that we have integrated are those which have got big population, whereby we were facing some challenges like water scarcity and the issue of toilets,” he told Eye Radio.

“We are in preparing of thinking of other means to be put in place so that we have to maintain the population.”

It is not clear how many pupils have been affected by the closure of the schools.
