Author : | Published: Thursday, May 16, 2013

One person was shot and injured in Juba’s Gumbo area when police tried to demolish some illegally erected tukuls.

The shootout erupted when the alleged land grabbers obstructed the demolition team from pulling down huts.

According to Juba County Commissioner Stephen Wani Michael, the man was shot by colleagues of a policeman he tried to snatch a gun from.

The victim is receiving treatments at the Juba Teaching Hospital.

The demolition was ordered by the Juba County authorities on Wednesday.

Hon. Wani urged people to understand government’s policy on land demarcation.

Commissioner Wani said the land in Gumbo is needed to build the county’s new headquarters on.

At the moment, Juba County is in Juba Town.
