Police authorities are planning to return to stores some of the guns used by the organized forces and weapons illegally held by civilians.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, General Andrew Kuol Nyoun, told Eyeradio’s Dawn program that it is more challenging to disarm civilians those who are committing crimes with firearms than to disarm the organized forces.

“We are currently processing the return of the guns to the stores from the Police and the Army as well as the other organized forces”, he said.

He says that the fire arms with the armed forces, both police and the SPLA in addition to the other organized forces, will be taken back to the stores.

“There are criminals who are armed, even some civilians have guns. It is very easy for the guns distributed to the army and the police to be taken to the stores but the guns that are with the civilians are very difficult to collect because they move from one place to another like the cattle keepers because they are the ones who come to commit crimes in towns. We want to take back the guns of the organized forces to all to stores and then we shall see how we can disarm the civilians”, he added.

General Andrew Kuol adds that the police who are on duty must observe the laws of the police and refrain from drinking.
