Peace actors from a coalition of civil society, international, and government organizations have started seven days of peace campaigns in commemoration of the International Day of Peace.

This year the International Day of Peace will be celebrated in South Sudan on the 21st of September under theme: “Together We Can Heal the Nation.”

Activists say this is a call for every citizen to imagine, commit, and actively contribute to the vision of sustainable peace in South Sudan.

In a joint statement with the civil society coalition, the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission say the peace day will be used to highlight the cost of the conflict.

“International Day of Peace for us is about continuously highlighting the horror and cost of the conflict in South Sudan, shining a light on some success stories; securing strong commitment from all relevant stakeholders, establishing common targets and embarking on an irreversible march towards peace,” said Chairperson of the South Sudan Peace and Reconciliation Commission Chuol Rambang.

It would also be used to a secure a strong commitment from all relevant stakeholders.

The statement says the day will mark the beginning of a long-term effort among civil society, national and international organizations to promote peace and stability, as part of the 100 Days of Peace Activism mobilization.
