The Chairman of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, Festus Mogae, is in Juba to consult with the government on the implementation of the peace agreement.

IGAD appointed Mr Mogae in October as the head of the monitoring body set up to oversee the implementation of the peace agreement

The former Botswanan president is said to have experience in dealing with complex issues of governance and security.

Mogae told the media upon arrival at Juba International Airport on Thursday that he will be listening to authorities on how to implement the agreement signed in August.

“As you know, the aim here is for consultation with the authorities,” Mr Mogae said. “I will be doing a lot of listening.”

The JMEC will be responsible for monitoring and overseeing the implementation of the agreement

These include the adherence of the parties to the agreed timelines and implementation schedules.
