Nine people have been killed and four others wounded in a possible revenge attack in Apro Payam, the commissioner of Cueibet County in Lakes State has said.

The deceased include two girls, two children and a woman.

Isaac Mayom Malik told Eye Radio yesterday that armed men attacked a cattle camp in Apro on Monday night.

Mr. Mayom said youth from Rumbek North suspected youth from Cueibet and neighboring Rumbek Central of attacking them. No arrest has been made so far.

“We failed to capture them because they ran into their places,” he said. “The county should take the responsibility of their criminals and arrest them.”

Commissioner Mayom said the state government is working to reconcile the communities in the state.

Lakes has been experiencing such attacks. Recently, two people were killed and another injured in a cattle raid in Rumbek Central County.

Members of the National Legislative Assembly say about 500 people have been killed in the past months.
