Why Magwi bridge work was suspended

Author : | Published: Wednesday, April 13, 2016

Construction of a bridge in Magwi County has been suspended due to fear of landmines, local authorities in Imatong State have told Eye Radio.

The Chief of Pajok says a Chinese company started the construction of the bridge on Atebi River last month, but stopped after discovering mines at the water source.

James Otto says the new bridge was expected to facilitate movement of people and goods from Uganda and within the Payam.

“We want the demining people to come and remove them so that they [engineers] continue with their work,” Mr Otto said.

The unfinished bridge has narrowed Atebi River and this, he added, may increase the overflow of the river during heavy rains.
