President Salva Kiir has granted general amnesty to the main opposition leader 3 days after signing a peace accord.

Dr Riek Machar, the chairman of the SPLM-IO, had been leading his military wing SPLA-IO since the renewed conflict in July 2016.

The amnesty – which was extended to other anti-Juba figures who have been fighting since 2013 – was announced on the state-run SSBC on Wednesday  evening.

President Kiir also issued another order for the reiteration and repetition of the declaration of permanent ceasefire.

According to the republican decree, this will continue in full operation until otherwise.

The SPLA and other organized forces have also been ordered to observe this.

This is in accordance with the Khartoum declaration agreement.
