The Kenya Revenue Authority and police are investing how eight Mercedes Benz bearing South Sudanese number plates have been transported into the country.

The police say the vehicles were found with fake documents, and are suspecting they were either stolen or smuggled into Kenya.

The cars identified with the SSD private number plates, were intercepted by a police as they were being offloaded from containers in a compound within a slum in Nairobi.

But according to a report by the Kenyan Star Newspaper, two South Sudanese and a Kenyan, when interrogated, said the cars were the property of the government of South Sudan.

The Revenue Authority says it believed, the Government registration numbers were removed and replaced with civilian ones before being off loaded.

It says they are in communication with Authorities in Juba to establish the ownership of the vehicles and why they are in Kenya.
