Kapoeta: Inmates lack medical care

Author : | Published: Thursday, August 25, 2016

Prison authorities in Namurnyang have raised concern about limited medical attention, inadequate feeding and poor accommodation of inmates at the main prison in Kapoeta.

They say a food ration donated by the UN some days ago has finished while there are no medicines to give to the detainees.

The number of the prisoners has not been specified, but prison officials say there are only a few cells which are not enough for all of them to sleep in.

Prison wardens only identified as Akom and Keri told Eye Radio that most of the inmates have now contracted an unknown skin disease, which is not being contained.

“We’ve several inmates who are sick and they can’t afford to buy drugs, and there is congestion causing scabies and stomachache,” Akom said.

However, Lokai Joseph, state Minister of Local Government, says the issues of inmates in prison will be addressed soon.
