Jonglei encourages boy/girl scout groups

Author : | Published: Monday, August 8, 2016

Authorities in Jonglei have instructed all youth in the state to form boy and girl scouts.

The State Governor, Phillip Aguer, made the call over the weekend while addressing a youth rally from Twic East, Duk, and Bor counties.

Scouting or the Scout Movement promotes character, outdoor activities, good citizenship, and service to others.

It also aims to support physical, mental and spiritual development of young people so that they may play constructive roles in their society.

It is unclear how the authorities are going to empower the youth through scouting, but Mr Aguer said the state ministry of youth and sport will immediately introduce scout projects in the state.

He said it’s a must for every youth in the state to join a scouting group, which he says, will be introduced in schools along with sports activities.

“Whether you like it or not, it will be like sport; sport is supposed to be one of the subjects. So sport and scout will be combined,” Mr Aguer added.

Governor Aguer also says youth centers and the state vocational training centers will be establish to help train youth in the state.
