UN House: Aid groups conduct biometric registration of IDPs

Author : | Published: Monday, September 26, 2016

Humanitarian partners are conducting a biometric registration at the UNMISS site which is hosting more than 39,000 IDPs in Juba, the International Organization for Migration has announced.

IOM says the biometric registration follows population count in August and subsequent WFP paper-based registration, which enabled food distributions in this month.

It says the last biometric registration at the UN House PoC site was conducted in June 2015.

IOM says during the registration, each household member is fingerprinted and issued with an individual identification card.

The humanitarian group says the methodology minimizes duplication, absentees, and errors found in paper-based registration, enabling appropriate response planning and avoiding replication of services.

It says the exercise, which started last week and is expected to continue for three weeks.
