Don’t ‘grab’ schoolgirls’ motivation cash, parents warned

Education authorities in Western Lakes State have warned parents and guardians against misusing schoolgirls’ financial assistance.

This remark came during the launch of the cash money transfer to pupils in Rumbek yesterday.

Each schoolgirl reportedly receives 2,300 pounds.

“We do not expect any deduction or grabbing of the money to happen from anywhere whether in the school, on the way or home,” said David Okello, official at the department of education in BRAC.

The initiative, which is targeting 17,000 schoolgirls in Greater Lakes state, is meant to help the girls stay in school.

“We don’t want to hear of such a report but if happens, we welcome such report; the girl who is affected to come to us and we shall follow up the case seriously,” Mr Okello added.
