Gov’t, SPLM-IO still argue over number of IO advance team

The Minister of Information says the advance team of the SPLM in Opposition will not come to Juba until the group agrees with the government on the exact number of the delegates.

Michael Makuei Lueth says the opposition has presented a new list of 609 members to be dispersed across the 10 states.

But the spokesperson for Dr. Riek Machar said yesterday that IGAD had approved 262 people to be sent to Juba.

The government’s spokesperson on his part says the government rejects that number. Micheal Makuei says they want a team of only 30 people.

“Their number is swelling…and up to this moment we have not agreed on the number, and as such we have not agreed on the date of their arrival. They will not come unless we agree on the number of those who are coming,” Said Makuei”

This morning, James Gatdet said that IGAD was consulting donor countries on the position of the government.

Mr. Gatdet could not confirm the previous or any new schedule for the arrival of their delegation in Juba.
