Governance: S Sudan ranked the worst after Somalia

A survey by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation has ranked South Sudan as the second worst country after Somalia in all aspects governance in Africa.

The survey, which covers a period of 10 years since 2006, studied how each African country delivered in areas of Safety and the of Rule of Law, Participation and Human rights, Sustainable Economic Development opportunity and Human Development.

The report shows that South Sudan has scored zero in all the areas governance, an indication that it has not made any progress or improvement in all aspects of the survey, especially last year.

The government is yet to comment.

Somalia has for a consecutive time trailed South Sudan as the 54th country with the worst score.

The report says over the past decade, the continental average score in Overall Governance has improved by one point.

It says since 2006, 37 countries, hosting 70% of African citizens, have improved in Overall Governance.

The greatest improver at the Overall Governance Level over the decade is Côte d’Ivoire followed by Togo, Zimbabwe, Liberia, and Rwanda respectively.

Ghana and South Africa which appeared among the top performing countries in Overall Governance in 2015 are the eighth and tenth most deteriorated over the decade.
