Food donation to IDPs in Lainya not enough

Authorities in Central Equatoria State say the food donation that was delivered by the government to IDPs who fled clashes to Lainya County yesterday is not enough.

They say the batch was planned to cater for only less than half of the population.

There are more than 11,000 people who fled Wonduraba and Katigiri areas due fighting between the government and the SPLM-In Opposition.

The State Security Advisor, Brigadier Abraham Wani says the food will be enough for only about 5,000 people.

“This people really need food, they need clothes, they need something like bedding, they need medicines, they need soaps and they are also naked,” Brigadier Wani said calling on humanitarian agencies and well-wishers to assist the IDPs.

“…the food that we brought was meant for 5,200 but now the number has gone to 11,000 so the food that we bought was calculated for 10 days”.

“As the number increases, this food is not going to be enough. Instead of taking the 10 days, it may take them only 5 days because the number has doubled”

Brigadier Wani says the government has also donated food items to other 500 people who fled Wonduruba to Ganji area in Juba County.
