Hundreds of families are in need of urgent food, shelter and medical supplies in Bor town after the Nile River burst its banks, and caused serious floods in Jonglei state.

Jonglei state government is calling for an emergency support to the victims affected by widespread floods.

The floods have displaced people mainly in Bor.

Bor Town Mayor, Nhial Majak said a statewide emergency appeal has been launched.

He said the extent of the damages caused by the floods to homes is too large for the county or state authorities to manage.

“We are seriously in need of support from anybody,” said Mr. Nhial, “Bor people here in town are surely affected and they need some assistance.”

“We have moved people out of places that are completely under water; their houses have started falling into the water.

“This flood is actually what they call the maroon floods; it is dirty water coming from the Nile. We are surely in crisis.”

Mister Nhial called on the national government, non-governmental and organizations to assist the flood victims.
