Authorities in Twic East County of Jonglei State say 500 households have been affected by the recent flood.

The County Commissioner, Dau Akoi, says the flood has also destroyed feeder roads that connect the county headquarters with the state capital Bor.

Dau says there is an alarming food shortage because the humanitarian organizations could not reach the county due to the poor roads that have been damaged by the floods.

“What are experiencing at the moment is the rains that cause floods that we cannot control. So there are a lot of villages that have been affected and it destroyed bridges as well villages around the roads,” Mr Dau told Eye Radio.

“The other flooding is coming from the River Nile, we already have preparedness, we put the dyke to help stop the Nile flooding. We already made that preparedness and the dyke is now holding the water from the Nile,” he said.

Commissioner Dau Akoi said Twic East has experienced heavy rainfall over the last four days.
