Ezo: DRC refugees in need of relief aid

Author : | Published: Tuesday, June 17, 2014

Over five hundred refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo who fled to Western Equatoria State are in dire need of food, the Commissioner of Ezo County has said.

Albert Modie told Eye Radio that the refugees ran to South Sudan due to fear of insecurity caused by the Ugandan Load Resistance Army.

He urged the humanitarian organizations to provide food and medical services to these people.

Most of them are women and children.

“To access medicine is a problem; food is also becoming a problem,” said Mr Modie, “and that is why we are calling up NGOs and the well-wishers to rescue the situation before it gets worse.”

Western Equatoria State is a home to thousands of refugees from the D-R-C and Central African Republic.

Last month, a conference on enhancing security for the civilians against attacks by the L-R-A was held in the state capital, Yambio.

The conference was attended by representatives from the D-R-C, Central African Republic, Uganda and South Sudan.
