About Eye Media
Eye Media is a 100% South Sudanese-managed nonprofit organization legally registered and incorporated as a national NGO in 2012. Eye Media independently manages and operates Eye Radio, South Sudan’s first independent radio broadcaster of news, information & entertainment: from its FM station in Juba, via its repeater network to the major population centers, on shortwave across the country, and online on eyeradio.org, Facebook, and Twitter.”
The organization was established for informational, educational, non-governmental and scientific purposes, in order to provide to the people of South Sudan and neighboring territories: objective and balanced news and information on issues vital to an informed and participating citizenry, including governmental issues and elections, civic education, health, education, culture and gender.
Eye Radio, formerly the Sudan Radio Service (SRC), began as a project of Education Development Center (EDC), an international NGO based in the US, with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). SRS’ first broadcast was on July 30, 2003, with initial one hour-long shortwave broadcast, consisting of news summaries and music.
