Ex-child soldiers receive clothes from Japanese peacekeepers

The United Nations has donated clothes to former child soldiers who have been disarmed and demobilized from the army.

The second-hand clothes were given by the Japanese contingent of the UN mission in South Sudan.

The national Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration commission received the materials.

It is not clear how many children will benefit from the donation. The chairperson of the commission, William Deng Deng, has called for disarmament of more child soldiers.

“In order for South Sudan to embark in the development and making sure that the human resource is developed, we must take care of our children not to recruit them and not to let them join the army,” Mr Deng said.

UNICEF Child Protection Specialist, Anthony Nolan, said there are still more children that need to be released from the army.
