A senior official in the police says members of the public will soon be able to call the police when there are emergencies.

The Ministry of Interior says Emergency Call Centers will start operating in Juba in two weeks’ time.

Early last month, the Ministry of Interior signed a memorandum of understanding with telecom operators, to establish the Emergency Call Centers in Juba.

The police Spokesperson, Colonel James Monday, told Eye Radio that tellers for the Call Centers have already been established in the Police Headquarters.

“The public need to know that by July 9th, we will have all the Emergency Call centers in Juba. You just call the center, and the police will just arrive there to rescue the situation and so on. So we would be ready for anything. So as I talk already, if you move around Bulluk, you will find all their tellers there. So the work is going on, very soon we will have call centers everywhere”, Colonel Monday said.

There have been concerns raised by both the authorities and residents of Juba about escalating levels of crime, especially in the night.

Colonel Monday said once the call centers have been put in place, the police will be able to rapidly respond to reports of crimes.
