The former speaker of Western Bahr al-Ghazal State assembly says he will challenge his impeachment at the High Court.

Andrea Mayar was impeached last week over accusation of negligence of duty.

There are 43 MPs in the state assembly, but 27 of them sat on Thursday and elected a new speaker.

Hon Mayar told Eye Radio that his impeachment was illegal.

“Because the procedure is wrong,” he said, “the best thing for me to do is to challenge the issue before the court.”

Hon Mayar says he will petition the high court this week.
