Early treatment of cholera saves lives – MoH

Author : | Published: Monday, August 15, 2016

The Ministry Health has urged the public to seek early treatment for cholera, in suspected cases, to prevent

further death.

Over 700 cases and 22 deaths have been reported in some parts of the country since May.
These occurred in Juba, Terekeka and Duk in Jonglei state.

In a circular, the ministry says the public can get Oral Rehydration Salt from seven points across Juba.

These points are in Gurei, Kator, Lologo, Nyakuron, Gumbo, Munuki, Khor William, Mhad, Giada, Al-Sabah and Juba Teaching Hospital.

The sites are open from 7am to 6pm every day.

The public is also encouraged to call on a toll-free number: 1144, in case of any suspected cases of cholera.

Cholera is a serious bacterial disease. Its symptoms include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and severe dehydration.

To prevent cholera, wash your hands before handling food, drink only bottled or boiled water, avoid eating raw food, and eat raw fruits and vegetables that you can peel yourself.
