The Ceasefire Transitional Security and Monitoring Mechanism says it’s planning to verify redeployment of forces outside Juba on request of the national army.

The aim of verification is to facilitate deployment of the RPF, according to the body.

Early this week, SPLA Spokesperson Brigadier General Lul Ruai told Eye Radio the deployment of the Regional Protection Force in Juba need to be reviewed because the city is calm.

He said the RPF should instead deploy in other areas where there is violence.

“As per the request from the SPLA, CTSAMM is planning to verify the redeployment of security forces outside of Juba with the aim of facilitating the deployment of the RPF,” CTSAMM Chairman Molla Hailemariam said during the opening of the 13th meeting of the CTSAMM on Wednesday.

The UN Security Council approved the 4,000-strong force last year, a month after the outbreak of deadly violence in Juba.

Meanwhile, he said the monitoring teams have recorded ceasefire violations in the Upper Nile region.

“This reporting period has witnessed serious incidents of ceasefire violations in locations including Pagak, Mathiang, and Maiwut in eastern Upper Nile,” he added.
