CTSAMM calls on opposition to commit to a ceasefire

TThe Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangement Monitoring Mechanism has called on opposition forces carrying out attacks on the Juba-Nimule highway to respect the permanent ceasefire and allow full access to users.

On Wednesday, authorities in Imatong State said at least five people were killed and 13 others wounded in an ambush on road.

The incident happened in Moli area when passenger vehicle traveling to Juba were attacked by armed men.

CTSAMM says in its latest report that there have been multiple attacks on the road with escalating incidents since the beginning of June.

It says it Monitoring and Verification Teams and the UN mission in South Sudan have been patrolling Pageri and Moli areas in Imatong state and made investigations.

It says several civilians and military personnel were killed and vehicles destroyed.

CTSAMM says forces of the Former First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar claimed responsibility of some of the attacks.

It says the attacks are a clear violation of the Permanent Ceasefire and Security Arrangements.

Juba-Nimule Highway is the main supply route for people and goods in and out of South Sudan.

It is also a primary route for the delivery of humanitarian aid to Juba.
