5 dead in Lobonok clashes

Author : | Published: Monday, January 11, 2016

At least five people have been killed in clashes between cattle keepers and farmers in Lobonok area in Jubek State.

John Lodu Tombe, a Member Parliament representing the area, says the two groups have been fighting each other over the past three days.

He said the conflict started after pastoralists abducted three people in the area; two were later recovered but a young boy is still missing. The pastoralists were not available for comment.

Hon. Lodu told Eye Radio that most of the residents of the area have fled their homes due to fear of further attacks.

“The bodies are still lying there because the population has run away from the area. Nobody can bury them,” Hon Lodu stated.

Hon. Lodu said the area was calm this morning. The origin of the cattle keepers is unclear.
