The Council of Ministers has approved $11.8 million for rehabilitation and maintenance of Jur River Bridge in Wau State.

This comes after the Minister of Roads and Bridges presented an emergency budget proposal to the Council on Friday.

The over 40-year-old bridge is said to have weakened over the years and risks collapsing any time.

Mr. Makuei says the Ministry of Finance has been directed “how best they can fund this project”.

“If the money is availed, then the project will be completed within 9 months and this is time when we will at least have done something and saved the bridge,” Mr Makuei told the media on Friday.

Jur River Bridge was built by the British Royal Army during the period of the Addis Ababa Peace Agreement in the 1970s.

It is connecting the Bahr el Ghazal region states.
