The Mayor of Bor Municipality in Jonglei has issued an order banning the selling of Relief food items in the town.

This comes after an inspection by the municipal council found that most of food items distributed by humanitarian agencies are being sold in the Bor markets.

The Mayor, Akim Ajieth Buuny, told Eye Radio that those caught selling relief food will be arrested and tried in the courts of law.

He said: “We have seen such activities in the market and this is why we came to conclusion that all the relief items should be prohibited because these items are not meant for the market, they are meant for vulnerable groups.

“So this is not allowed, and we consider it unacceptable behaviors.

Mr. Ajieth says all authorities in the community have been informed about the order.
He says investigations are going on to find those involved in the activity.

Most of the foods are distributed in the state by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the World Food Program and Catholic Relief Service.
