The retired Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tambura-Yambio in Western Equatoria State, Joseph Gasi Abangite, has died at the age of 86.

A statement from the Secretary-General of Sudan and South Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Fr. Jacob Odwa, says Bishop Joseph Gasi passed away in Yambio yesterday.

The late bishop Gasi was born on the 1st of January 1928. He was ordained priest on the 21st of December 1957 and ordained bishop of Tamnura-Yambio Diocese on the 6th of April 1975.

He retired as bishop of Tambura-Yambio Diocese on the 19th of April 2008.
