Amadi has received food aid from a UN agency, the state minister of information has said.
John Obote told Eye Radio Thursday that six helicopters from Word Food Program landed in Mvolo town on Wednesday. WFP is yet to comment on this.
The authorities have been reporting cases of death related to hunger, mainly in Yeri, Mvolo and Bahr Grinti.
So far, over 80 people have starved to death in the areas, according to the state officials.
Mr. Obote says the more than 18,000 people in greater Mvolo will benefit from the relief food – maize, oil, and beans.
“Now, those of the organization called Food For Hunger are preparing themselves to go to Mvolo to go and distribute the food to the vulnerable,” Mr Obote confirmed to Eye Radio. “When they finish the issue of Mvolo, they will proceed to Yeri.”
The hunger in the area has been attributed to insecurity, poor harvest, and aid access restrictions.
