8 mothers die during childbirth in Juba’s

Eight pregnant mothers have died during delivery in Aru Buma, a few kilometers away from Juba.

The women died this year after two health centers were closed due to lack of nurses to assist in child birth.

“People in the area have to travel all the way to Juba or to Nimule to seek medical assistance,” the Executive Chief of Aru Boma, Philip Ladu, told Eye Radio.

“We have one primary health care in Lokubi built by UNICEF. And we have another building here in Aru junction, but there is no health worker to help people here.

“There is no treatment being offered here; if any of us falls sick, we resort to private clinics around here.

“But for those who do not have money they just fall terribly sick and others die in their houses.”

“Worst case is for women who want to deliver; there is no maternity health center here, so we are forced to take them all the way to Juba or to Nimule.”

Chief Ladu also said that they have schools but no teachers.

He urged Juba County and Central Equatoria state government to look urgently into these issues.

Aru boma is 25 kilometers, south east of Juba.
