Tonj State authorities are holding seven police officers over killing of a civilian in the area at the weekend.
According to the state minister of information, the cattleman identified as Mayang Akongping was taking his cows to Wau State for sell on Saturday.
Upon reaching a checkpoint manned by police tasked with preventing livestock theft, he was asked to produce a document for the animals.
“They were seven of them posted on the main highway to control those traveling with cattle,” said James Ayek.
From there, a quarrel ensued during which an officer allegedly shot Manyang dead.
“The police man who killed the traveler is now in the custody and is been investigated…he will be taken to the court of law,” he added.
