5 IDPs die of hunger in Juba

Five people have starved to death at an internally displaced persons’ camp in Juba, the chairperson of the Women Bloc in the 2015 peace deal has told Eye Radio.

Amer Manyok Deng, who is also a member of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, says the victims were three children and two women.

Ms Amer says they were among thousands of people who fled insecurity in Yei recently and are camping in Juba Two, a suburb located a few kilometers east of Juba town.

She said the IDPs are scattered around Juba but the “majority of people who came from Yei are in Juba Two”.

“There also, they are lacking water – clean water, and they are lacking food at all and that’s why they lost three children and two women,” she told Eye Radio.

Ms Amer said her group has been engaging with aid agencies to lobby for support and assistance to the IDPs.

“They usually call us here and there for their meetings to hear the situation they are in,” she added.
