Author : | Published: Tuesday, September 20, 2016

In Northern Uganda, four people have been killed in two separate incidents allegedly carried out by individuals from the host communities.

The camp chairman of Koboko, Aringu Peter, says a man and child were shot with an arrow at a riverside.

In a separate incident, a woman and her child died of suspected water poisoning. Mr Aringu says the incidents happened last week.

When contacted, the UNCHR spokesperson in Uganda, Charles Taxley said the agency is not aware of the incidents.

According to him, the host communities have been hospitable and are living peacefully with South Sudanese refugees.

“By and large what we see, the refugees and the host communities are living side by side peacefully,” Mr Taxley told Eye Radio. “The generosity of host communities in Uganda has been incredible.”

He further said the UNCHR is working with the Ugandan authorities on setting up police posts in all the camps to resolve misunderstandings.
