Some of the former officials in the office of the President serving life sentence have been released on medical parole.

A defense lawyer, Reec Ring, says Mayen Wol, Anna Kalisto, Yel Luol and Chaat Paul left the Juba Central Prison on Thursday.

Mr. Ring says the three men and a woman were released on medical grounds. Details of their medical conditions are yet to be known.

He says they are now undergoing medical checkups to determine whether the four are treated inside the country or abroad.

“If the doctor’s reports say they are supposed to be treated outside, then we will take our files and get back to the high court and present another appeal,” Mr Ring said.

The court had initially allowed them to travel to only three countries as options for medical attention, which include Egypt, the Sudan, and Kenya.

For her part, the Wife to former Executive Director in the office of the president, Mayen Wol, confirmed the release.

“I didn’t expect my husband to be released because I almost ran mad when they were sentenced to life in prison. I thank God because our father is out,” she said.

The 16 individuals, including four Kenyan nationals, were accused of playing a role in the loss of more than 14 million US dollars and 30 million pounds.

In June 2016, they were sentenced life in prison.

But in April this year, the Court of Appeal overruled the decision and referred it to the high court again.
