Peacekeepers grade Juba-Bor road
The Korean contingency of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan has started gravelling the Juba-Bor road.
The road was graded in the first phase of the construction last year.
The construction of the road is a result of cooperation between the government and the UN peacekeepers, said Kuong Denhiar Gatluak, national Minister for Roads and Bridges
The Caretaker Governor of Jonglei State, John Kong Nyuon, says more than 100 kilometers of road have been cleared, from Bor to Mangala. Mangala is approximately 50 kilometers from Juba.
A passenger travelling from Bor to Juba yesterday said the grading will improve the movement of goods and people between the two capitals and lead to economic development.
“They have started putting murram on the road at Pakwau coming towards Juba,” he said, “so I think this is a good start for the people of Jonglei state and it will be effective for the business people and the passengers that travel from Juba to Bor.”
The Horizontal Military Engineering Company is constructing the road.
